It is a path less travelled, let alone as quickly, a journey from FC Copenhagen to Sturm Graz, Atalanta to Manchester United, all before his 21st birthday sabong

It wasn’t Hojlund, though that is no criticism: there are times when he is the brightest of United’s front three simply a process of excellence but here, as against Galatasaray, it was a consequence of excellence sabong
But it was his compatriot Christian Eriksen who curled in a cross that Harry Maguire converted sabong
Which, along with Andre Onana’s 97th-minute penalty save from Jordan Larsson, averted indignity sabong
Which a draw would have been, given the gulf in resources sabong between the clubs sabong
Hojlund is proof of it sabong
But as his former club, who had led against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich, came within a few inches of going ahead at Old Trafford, there were times when Hojlund had to stand and admire sabong
In different ways, his younger brothers Oscar, a late substitute for Copenhagen, and Emil, who did not make the bench, were spectators sabong
So was the older and more expensive sibling, limited to two touches in the first quarter of an hour, left stranded by United’s impotence sabong
Yet, with the notable exception of Maguire’s decider, everything they did right thereafter in attack revolved around him sabong
Which, in itself, may have been an indictment of others sabong
Pivotal as centre-forwards can be, United looked over-reliant on one whose name, this time last year, may have simply seemed a failed attempt to spell Haaland sabong
And the Norwegian, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been keen to point out, was a player he advised United to sign for £4m, five years before they got Hojlund for 18 times as much sabong
But in the Hojlund derby, the forward United did get to show a sharpness sabong
He came alive in the final third in a manner to suggest that his teammates needed to give him more of the ball sabong

When Elias Jelert was required to clear off his line, it was because Hojlund met Bruno Fernandes’ header with a deft piece of chest control sabong
It was a sign of resourcefulness, an ability to make something out of nothing sabong
Which, at times, was just as well, given his supply line sabong
Neither winger is a crosser sabong
Antony, as even those who have spent decades stranded on tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean know, will try and cut inside and shoot with his left foot sabong
Rashford, too, has designs on being more of a scorer than a supplier sabong
Hojlund spent some of the first half acting as the creator for McTominay, the ungainly auxiliary No 10 sabong
But United had more sabong footballing craft with Eriksen on sabong
He is the technician while Hojlund’s physical attributes form part of his appeal sabong
He has got a wiry strength sabong
He is a rangy runner with a turn of pace sabong
He has an eager willingness that stands him in good stead sabong
The raw materials are there sabong
Yet the concern is that too few signings have improved at United in the last decade; it is just a coincidence of negotiating that Hojlund’s fee is very similar to Jadon Sancho’s but the exiled winger is proof United’s best-laid plans can go wrong sabong

Yet he kicked off as the Champions League’s joint top scorer, the product of a strike against Bayern and a brace against Galatasaray sabong
Even as he drew a blank against Copenhagen, Hojlund added to the impression that he belongs on this stage sabong
But as United laboured to victory, they scarcely offered compelling evidence they will still be in the Champions League after Christmas sabong

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is not expecting Luke Shaw to make a return to action before the next international break sabong
Left-back Shaw has not played since the 2-0 loss at Tottenham on August 19, United’s second fixture of the season, due to a muscle injury – sitting out nine club games as well as four England matches sabong
Ten Hag’s men are set to play seven times sabong between now and England’s next game, against Malta on November 17 sabong
United have been blighted by injuries in defence, with right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka another who has been sidelined since sustaining an injury against Brighton on September 18 sabong
Ten Hag said: “Of course they are closer sabong
(But) for Luke Shaw, I don’t expect him back in this block of games sabong
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I don’t think he’s too far away from returning to team training and so back in the team sabong
”United travel to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on Saturday night without Casemiro, who emerged from Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela last Friday and Uruguay five days later with an injury sabong
“In the first game he came off but then he played the second game, it was an important one,” Ten Hag said of the midfielder, who is suspended for next Tuesday’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen sabong
“I’m sure that game didn’t help him, but it’s a small injury, he’ll return (from Brazil) next week, it will be healed and then he’s ready for our next (league) game (against Manchester City), I’m sure sabong
”United do have defensive pair Raphael Varane and Sergio Reguilon available again after injury lay-offs, while Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez are other defenders still sidelined alongside Shaw and Wan-Bissaka sabong
Ten Hag – whose side have lost six times in all competitions this term and are 10th in the Premier League – has stressed of injuries that he will “never use it as an excuse” but believes it has not helped new goalkeeper Andre Onana settle after a number of mistakes since his summer arrival from Inter Milan sabong
“Of course when every time you have a different defending line in front of you it is not helpful… but you have to deal with it,” Ten Hag added sabong
“But it didn’t help for the results and it didn’t help his integration, absolutely sabong
”Ten Hag has said defender Victor Lindelof is “ready” to play against Sheffield United after his distressing experience earlier in the week sabong
Lindelof captained the Sweden side whose Euro 2024 qualifier against Belgium in Brussels on Monday was abandoned after two Swedish fans were shot dead and another injured three miles from the stadium sabong
Ten Hag also indicated there has been no change in terms of Jadon Sancho, who has been training away from the first team, with the club having said that is “pending resolution of a squad discipline issue” sabong
England’s 3-1 win over Italy on Tuesday saw Marcus Rashford score a fine goal – having netted only once previously this season – and Harry Maguire play the full duration in defence sabong
Ten Hag said: “I enjoyed the (performances from the) players involved from us – you saw the qualities sabong
